The following is a weekly column by guest contributor Laurie Gallardo. Hear her Friday evenings on KUT 90.5FM -- The Editors Greetings, chilly willies. I will now quote something I heard this morning from the esteemed producer of In Black America on KUT, John L. Hanson, Jr.  Mr. Hanson is someone I hold in very high regard. Everyone should. To put it as succinctly as possible, he is a bad ass. This morning in the office, I heard him mutter, “Sometimes, it just don’t pay to get outa bed.”  I second that. I wanted to stay under the layers of comforters. I’m from El Paso (don’t hold it against me, please), where winters are typically mild, so I’m not used to chilly temperatures in any range. I’ve gotten plenty of flack from peeps in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Detroit because I don’t know what cold is. Well, duh! Where are my woolly scarves and my glorious Chia hat?! This is the only time I’ll get to wear such things!  However, the cold will not keep me from attending today’s stellar Fun Fun Fun Fest at Waterloo Park. punk, indie and DJ stages showcasing a multitude of fantastic bands and deejays, both local and from across the country. There’s too much music to be missed, and it’s all inspiration for tonight’s playlist on the Laurie Show. Please click on the linky bit for a complete listing of Fest performers.  One of the bands you may see at the Fest is burning the candle at both ends:  The Octopus Project will grace the Indie stage at around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, then they’ll play at the Blanton Museum’s B Scene from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight. Expect to hear their music on my show; I’m really enjoying the collaborative CD they did with Black Moth Super Rainbow, The House of Apples and Eyeballs. Check out the great story that KUT’s Teresa Ferguson did about Octo Proj on the Austin Music Minute.
