This week I booked 52 hours. Which is by no means a record, but neither is it the actual number of hours I worked. I always deduct a few hours when work supplies me with food and what-not. But I was up at 5.20 on Tuesday and 6.20 on Wednesday in order to go down to Garden Island, and didnt get back until 9.40T/8.30W. I even had to cancel Ladies Night! The reason I was up so early is because I spent Tuesday and Wednesday on Cockburn Sound in the DL Shark (a Navy dive launch) and on several Zodiacs and rigid deployment boats with a bunch of Navy Clearance Divers, acceptance testing the gear we have been developing for the past year or so. I was also out last Thursday and on Monday in a rented fishing boat doing preparation and last minute trials. Fun facts: Navy divers are very lazy, hungry, and not particularly smart. But they loved my DS. Navy officers are very smart, patient and care a lot about doing things right and the safety of their teams. Boat food is awesome. We had muffins and chips and coke and chicken rolls and chicken BLTs and these apple cakes that tasted like heaven. You know, if you could eat heaven. In fact, I bet heaven wouldnt even be as good as those apple cakes. Its funny when your Project Manager has been harping about being careful with the equipment for 6 months, so you have been carefully lowering it into the water when on trials. Give it to Navy divers and they throw it overboard like garbage. Zodiacs are super fun. Boat bunks are incredibly comfortable. How boats did anything without GPS, I will never know. The sea breeze sucks. Collins class submarines are very small. Most of our stuff worked. We even found an actual bug (as opposed to altered requirement or change request) in my software, but I was able to fix it on the fly with config. Needless to say, Im still pretty knackered. There is a Halloween party tonight, but I cant be bothered assembling Rickys Patented Laziest Halloween Costume Ever, and the host is a dickhead. There is also the Guitar Wolf option, because I love Japanese punk rock, but I am fairly certain that attending that show would require an even greater sum of effort than the party. So, likely I will spend a lazy night on the couch. If you feel like a lazy Friday night, come over and watching something. I have Heroes.
