New page '''Dissent''' is a political hardcore punk band located originally in Katy, Texas. The band started from the ashes of the Loonagans in 2005. Dissent began as a three piece peace punk band with Tom Roberts on vocals and guitar, Kenny Perkins on bass, and Stephen Bower on drums. The bands main influences were bands like Conflict and Aus Rotten.<br /> The three piece recorded songs with a video camera and played about half a dozen shows varying from friends parties to a coffee shop, to the Southmore House (Houston, TX). It was not until listening to the recording of a show played at "punk Fest", Java Jazz (Spring, TX), that the band decided to recruit a new guitarist to obtain a different sound. Also this way Tom could concentrate better on vocals and he thought that his guitar played wasn't good enough to continue playing in the band. Ben Gott, a friend of Tom's, was recruited. His guitar playing made the band sound significantly more metallic and heavy.
