My wife and I loved Steamboy. The only shortcomings from my POV are Scarlett's almost relentless nastiness and Ray's grandpa running around barefoot and half naked. He looked like a witch doctor instead of a scientist. Howl's Moving Castle, another "steam punk" anime, is just as good. Now isn't it time somebody suggested a Doc Savage adaption to our Japanese friends?
