The California Milk Processor Board has had its knuckles rapped over a campaign that placed cookie-scented strips on bus shelter bills promoting milk. The aroma was part of its “Got Milk?” ad campaign and drew national attention as it was the first time scented outdoor advertising had been used in the US. The aroma triggered protest from activists who complained it could trigger asthma attacks and allergic reactions from people waiting at bus stops, so before the first day of the campaign was out, the Municipal Transport Agency had asked for it to be discontinued, even though the scented strips use no chemicals.
