The PSNC and asthma UK have worked together to produce a support pack for community pharmacists, which provides information and advice on how to carry out MURs for patients with asthma. According to the news item, an estimated 75% of asthma-related hospital admissions and 90% of deaths are thought to be preventable with good management of the condition. The MUR is the ideal vehicle to improve a person’s knowledge of their condition and the medicines used to treat it. The resource pack also helps to identify any problems patients are experiencing, offering possible solutions. A patient leaflet - ‘asthma advice from your pharmacist’ - has also been produced, which is designed to be given to a person with asthma before they have an MUR. The packs will be distributed by PSNC direct to community pharmacies in late January; copies of both the pack and patient leaflet will be available in electronic format via the PSNC website in the near future.
