2 year contract Client: large hydro company Location: Toronto Start Date: January 2010 Rate per hour: depends on experience Description: Our client is currently seeking an Owners Engineer. The ideal candidate would be accountable for the development of business and functional requirements, identification and implementation support of technologies and business processes to meet requirements, be a subject matter expert in the area of electrical and / or telecommunications engineering as it relates to Distribution network investigation and implementation including business case development. Responsibilities: Identifier of technology / gaps, implementation plans / gaps. Interfacing with the vendors, the Project management Office (“PMO”) Review and develop (as required) technology options, cost implications and risk mitigation plans. Review project progress. Conflict resolution as they evolve. High-level reporting of progress and issues. Play a “hands-on role” in the project implementation by way of engineering oversight A second requirement is to provide mentoring, project management skills development and knowledge transfer to our client’s internal staff. Candidates are expected to have significant experience, and a proven track record with similar large projects. Required Skills: Significant experience with large projects involving the implementation of new electrical and / or telecommunication and protection technologies It is preferred that the engineer not have any business affiliation (directly or indirectly) to any product / vendor / system that could potentially be deployed by other vendors. Ten-plus (10+) years of electrical engineering experience. This should include a successful record of developing and delivering technology and related business processes based on customer requirements. Power systems Distribution planning, operations, protections and equipment. New technology areas such as Energy Storage systems (batteries, CAES, etc.), DER / Distribution Generators (“DGs”). Systems integration areas Distribution management Systems (“DMS”), Outage management Systems (“OMS”), GIS, Standards, Demand Response (“DR”) / Distributed Generation (“DG”), Volt-VAR controls, etc. (near real time). Telecommunications as it caters to key protection & control requirements including Cyber security (e.g. North American Electric Reliability Council (“NERC’) / Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) requirements) and emerging standards emanating from the current National Institute of Standards and Technology (“NIST”) activity in the USA. Implementation of Conservation, Demand Response, and Smart Meters. Excellent organization skills a demonstrated history of effective time management, coordination with stakeholders, managing customer (internal or external) expectations, ability to write in simple succinct English, a logical approach to information categorization, and work breakdown structures. Excellent facilitation skills ability to train, facilitate workshops, host information gathering sessions, make presentations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong leadership skills and teambuilding. Project governance experience: working with a PMO, reviewing project processes to ensure they meet internal compliance requirement. Duration and Terms for all positions: Time Required: Eight (8) hours per day (not including lunch). Required Work-day: Consultants must start no later than 8:30 am and leave no earlier than 4:30 pm.
