We are recruiting a Senior Accountant for the American Baptist Extension Corporation (ABEC), a non-profit financial institution for American Baptist churches, individuals and others who are aligned with American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA). Individuals, churches and institutions invest in an array of ABEC’s investment services enabling the organization to provide the financial support needed to in turn, make loans to churches and related institutions. ABEC loans help build new churches and enable existing churches to expand and make improvements, all for the larger benefit of the American Baptist communities. The Senior Accountant will be a financial accountant with analyst capabilities. He/She will be responsible for fiscal planning, analysis and budget preparation. The individual we seek will have the ability to understand the connection between the mission of the organization and forecasts, while having the ability to rally behind a strategic direction. Additionally, he/she will be “hands on” with a strong customer service orientation, and possess an innate ability to interact with all levels of clients and colleagues within our diverse environment. The Senior Accountant reports to the President of ABEC. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Compile financial and operational information and data on a regular basis for the purposes of analyzing, interpreting, monitoring, and reporting •Prepare financial statements, to include balance sheet, P&L, cash flow statements and budget reports •Complete bank reconciliations and all day-to-day accounting activities, including the posting of journal entries •Prepare and distribute financial reports •Coordinate timely month-end and year-end close and reporting; Prepare month-end and year-end journal entries, account reconciliations and account analyses •Process daily receipts for loans and investments •Work with auditors in finalizing year-end financial statements •Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as requested •Attend ABC and ABC-related meetings on behalf of the organization, periodic travel may be required •Perform other duties as assigned Competencies and Skills Required: •Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP •Series 63 license or successful acquisition within six (6) months of employment •Customer service oriented individual with excellent verbal communication skills •Positive attitude and professional demeanor •Nonprofit or public accounting experience preferred •Excellent organizational skills and ease of use of technology including proficiency with general ledger software, MS Office proficient with a focus on Word, Outlook and Excel and the use of third-party software systems •Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment •Knowledge of church financial operations preferred Education, Certification and Experience •Minimum of five years experience in accounting, financial planning and analysis roles •Bachelor Degree in finance or accounting •Series 63 license or successful acquisition within 3 - 6 months of employment required •MBA preferred or professional designation, i.e., CPA ABEC is an Affirmative Action /Equal Opportunity Employer
