So, you've probably had some questions on what the best way to RP is. Well, to be honest, there is NO right or wrong way to RP. As long as it's enjoyable to you, your RP buddies, and of course, does not go against chat/forum/site rules, then you are RPing the right way. Always try to make RP something you can have fun with. There are storylines, random encounters, new encounters, etc. This helps us get to know each other through RP, and help better ourselves for the future. It is definitely essential to RP to your best ability. Here are a couple tips and suggestions I'd like to share with you all: (x)-1-(x) Try to be descriptive enough. *Being descriptive in forum or chat roleplay helps the other user, or your RP buddy to understand the concept of your post, and be able to build a visual image of the situation in their mind. We are using words, not pictures. You should try to paint a picture in the minds of your readers; thus, giving your RP posts an accurate description and explanation that is easy to understand, and visualize, as well as relate to. (x)-2-(x) Utilize grammar. *Using good grammar is also an important part of any kind of writing. Although some people may either be too lazy, or just not that good at grammar, it is always a good thing to try. If people are not able to understand your posts, how will they understand the concept of the RP? If you were to post something that has tons of misspelled words, to the point where it was almost impossible to read or understand, people may want to stray away from you and find someone who has a more "literate" side. Remember: There are always ways to improve grammar. If you feel you are the only one with bad grammar, take a second look around. There are plenty out there with your problem, and us mentors, mods, and admins are always here to help. (x)-3-(x) Don't over-do yourself. *Basically, what I would call "over-doing yourself," is just by posting something with like every other word that was looked up in the thesaurus, and makes absolutely no sense. There are tons of different ways to try and explain the situation, surroundings, etc., without having to go into serious detail. You don't need to describe the sun as "a massive ball of fire raging with flames." Just...call it the sun, we'll know what you're talking about. (x)-4-(x) Don't be redundant. *Like I mentioned earlier, grammar is essential in the majority of RPs. Using a word an excessive amount of time is totally unnecessary. Try to use various terms to describe what you're talking about in your posts. For example, say, if you wanted to describe a woman's long brown hair. What you could do is this: The thick locks of hair that laid flat against her head flowed all the way past her shoulder-blades, to nearly the middle of her back. They were that of a chocolate brown, with what seemed like light caramel highlights that would shine vibrantly once the light touched them. (x)-5-(x) Make sure your post is not inappropriate! *Many users like to participate in adult/mature content RPs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. However, there are limitations on public sexual content. Although we may be able to publicly post a kiss, a hug, or even a bit of intimacy, no one wants to see your character get laid in the middle of the forest out in the open. Keep it at least PG-14, considering we DO have young members on here, and the fact that, that specific form of RP does go against RPG site rules. If you'd like to RP that way, please get to know each other, share instant messaging information, and RP your explicit content there. (x)-6-(x) Try to refrain from god-modding! *God-modding is basically, when a character is entangled in combat, and gives the opponent no room to fight back. This is not fair to anyone, no matter how skilled or unskilled you are in RP. A fair fight is all people want, when battling. When some people god-mod, it may discourage other users into thinking that they wouldn't want to participate in battles, because of the fear they'll get god-modded. Also, this is very ANNOYING. No one wants to walk into an area, and instantly be blasted with a shower of arrows, and killed right on the spot. How can that even happen? It's not logical, considering one person cannot control both characters. (x)-7-(x) Make sure your posts are organized. *When typing a post, make sure that it is relevant to the RP concept. No one wants to read a post that is jumbled with random thoughts. If you're RPing about werewolves and fairies, you would want to keep the subject handy, and mention what you can about the situation. Posting stuff like this will get readers confused: He was walking through the forest, searching for that dirty werewolf, and all of a sudden he spelled something rather sweet. It was donuts. Why was the smell of donuts coming to his nose? Were there donuts nearby? Well, he was pretty hungry, so he figured he'd continue to travel in the direction from which the sweet, donut smell cam from. See, that makes no sense. Hope that this all helps you guys out! I will be adding more as soon as I can. Excuse: It's currently 2:15 A.M. and my brain is whiped. ;(
