Location: Westport, IN (No Relocation) SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The position provides human resource leadership and support of the operational management of the facility, particularly from the perspective of the impact on people. The Human Resource/EHS Representative will comply with policies and practices of the facility that are consistent with the business unit and of Alcan, the ethical and social consequences of business and society and the laws, regulations and administrative rulings of governmental organizations and other regulatory and advisory authorities and organizations. This position will train employees in appropriate policies and programs for effective management of people resources including but not limited to, employee relations, affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee complaints, internal and external education, and career development. Plan and conduct safety educational programs for all employees. Train employees on all safety procedures and enforce all safety rules and ensure all EHS guidelines are being met. Strong leadership skills to engage employees to continue the positive safety culture. Interface with Business Unit ISO coordinator, Plant Manager and Steering Committee to ensure that ISO 1400/1800 Quality System is established and maintained in the facility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES: 1) Environmental, Health and Safety: Demonstrate a commitment to an integrated approach to EHS and Clean Vision activities affecting zero incidents in all categories and a rating of Clean in all facilities. Facilitate all EHS initiatives as outlined by Alcan and Glass Tubing Amercias. 2) Recruitment: Assist management in evaluating and monitoring the staffing needs for the facility. Use of all internal/external resources available to attract and retain qualified applicants; assist in the screening and interviewing process to achieve maximum utilization of our human assets, production equipment, and quality requirements. All with a focus of reduction of turnover. 3) Employee Relations: Represent, assist and advise plant management of labor laws and good management practices to include compliant resolution, fair and consistent treatment of associates, policy development within Alcan and Glass Tubing Americas Guidelines and disciplinary actions to achieve a productive associate/management relationship. 4) People and Organization (P&O): Talent management through succession planning for individual contributors and management positions, training and development programs for preparing leaders for more significant responsibilities and general business development programs to enhance associate knowledge and understanding of the business. 5) Culture: Ensure that a progressive culture of distributed authority, responsibility and accountability, along with integrity, trust, honesty and respect is developed in the BU Tubing. Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and associates in order to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues. Coach business partners to create and maintain a work environment with high morale and productivity. 6) Training: provide direction to management staff engaged in developing and establishing employee training programs in an effort to upgrade managerial, technical, administrative and support-level productivity. Conduct Management and Employee Training as needed. 7) Technology: Stay current with distance learning and training opportunities. 8) Maintain records and files related to EHS. 9) Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: Bachelors in Human Resources or related preferred and supporting experience. EXPERIENCE: 1. Minimum of 3 - 5 years experience related to EHS and HR Management AND EHS. 2. Working knowledge of Employment Laws, EPA, and OSHA. 3. Demonstrated success in Lean Manufacturing. 4. Strong interpersonal communication. 5. Strong leadership skills. 6. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 7. Excellent written and verbal skills. 8. Proficient in MS Word, Excel or spreadsheet system. Knowledge of Access a plus. 9. Good facilitator and trainer and strong people skills. 10. Strong project management skills and technical skills.
